EPA has brought on a tested litigator as the agency braces for an onslaught of court challenges to President Joe Biden’s high-priority energy and environmental rules this year.

Meghan Greenfield has joined the agency as senior counsel for litigation in its general counsel’s office, according to an internal email obtained by E&E News. Greenfield joins EPA from the Department of Justice, where she defended the agency’s regulations in court.

“Meghan brings an extensive background and deep expertise in all matters related to litigation,” said general counsel Jeff Prieto in the email sent to staff last month. “In her role, Meghan will report to me and provide support to the political Deputies as we navigate an anticipated influx of defensive litigation in the coming year.”

Further, Greenfield will not support one office exclusively but rather head to where needed as litigation arises, “ensuring a consistent approach and narrative,” Prieto said.
