One of the country’s largest renewable companies unveiled a landmark robot Tuesday that it says can install solar panels at large-scale projects twice as fast as a humans and at half the cost.
AES, the robot’s developer, said automation will make installation of solar projects — which involves lugging, lifting and hoisting — safer and faster. “Maximo,” as the robot is called, targets two major challenges facing the solar industry: accelerating the time that projects come online and protecting workers from injury.
“The goal [with this robot] is acceleration, … which is what we need for the green energy transition,” said Chris Shelton, chief product officer for AES.
According to AES, Maximo is the first AI-enabled solar installation robot.
